Bob Mortimer is one half of legendary comedy double act Reeves and Mortimer, who had their first hit on our television screens in 1990 and have now been at the forefront of British comedy for over 20 years, winning numerous awards for their unique brand of humour, original wit and innovative programmes. After studying law, Bob was on course to become a solicitor, but after seeing Vic Reeve’s Big Night Out at Goldsmith’s Tavern, the pair became friends and started writing material together. Just ten weeks later, they were approached by Channel 4. In 1993, they made the transition to the BBC, starting on BBC Two with sketch show The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer and then with Bang Bang It’s Reeves and Mortimer, followed by a move to BBC One prime time with Families at War. In 1995, their comedy quiz Shooting Stars first aired, which is currently in its seventh series and continues to shine brightly on BBC Two.

Vic and Bob set up Pett Productions in 2001 with prominent television producer Lisa Clark. Their first production was hugely influential comedy drama Catterick, and Pett has continued to make acclaimed programmes across a wide range of genres, from Celebrity Dog School to The All Star Comedy Show, tittybangbang and Liz Smith’s Summer Cruise, establishing themselves as a major independent production company. This year Bob teamed up with his lifelong friend Paul Whitehouse to film Gone Fishing for BBC2. Writing and starring in numerous television programmes Bob has become a national institution continually inspiring generations of new comics and broadcasters.
